1. Make the phone actually ring with Portable North Pole

Portable North Pole remains one of the clearest options when you want a child to receive what looks and behaves like a normal telephone call.

A parent creates the message, chooses the personalization supported by that call, enters the destination number and schedules it.

When the phone rings, the recipient answers and follows the prompt before Santa's prepared message begins.

This works well for younger children because there is almost nothing for them to set up or understand. They simply hear the phone ring.

2. Have a real-time conversation with PNP Talk to Santa

PNP's Talk to Santa is meant for families who want interaction rather than a one-way message.

The current 2026 version allows the child to speak and hear Santa reply as the conversation progresses. PNP offers formats for Parent & Child, Groups and Ask Your Questions.

Its current help documentation says one conversation can include up to 10 back-and-forth exchanges. PNP also recommends having an adult companion present and testing the microphone and internet connection before starting.

This is a much better fit than a prerecorded call when the child's main goal is to ask Santa questions or tell him directly what they want for Christmas.

3. Book a live human Santa by video

Not every modern Santa experience is automated.

TalkToSanta.com currently offers scheduled video sessions with a human Santa for families and groups. The service markets the experience as a live conversation rather than a prerecorded call.

Its current 2026 website lists live video visits starting at $9.95, although available packages and appointment times can change as Christmas approaches.

This option requires more planning than opening an app, but it is the clearest choice on this list for a family that specifically wants a person reacting naturally on camera.

4. Use Speak to Santa for a personalized recorded experience

Speak to Santa takes a different approach.

The app uses performances recorded by actor Howard Hoffman and combines them with information selected by the parent. The current service says it supports more than 7,000 individually recorded names and can incorporate multiple details about the child.

Families can choose a personalized video call, phone-style voice call or audio message.

The service explicitly says the calls are simulated rather than live. That transparency is useful: the goal is personalization and convenience, not pretending an actor is actually waiting on the other end of the phone.

5. Use Video Call Santa when you want something simple

Video Call Santa is one of the more established simulation apps, with more than one million Google Play downloads.

It lets parents trigger or schedule an incoming-style video conversation from Santa. The current Android listing was updated in July 2026.

The developer is also explicit about how it works: all video calls are prerecorded simulations.

That makes it best for families who want a quick Christmas surprise without entering a phone number, booking an appointment or setting up a more complicated personalized service.

6. Try a real-time AI conversation

The Santa AI represents the newer category of Christmas apps: instead of selecting a prerecorded conversation, the child actually speaks and the software generates Santa's reply in real time.

The service converts the child's speech to text, creates a response and reads it back using Santa's voice.

The current app offers a limited amount of conversation time without paying and a longer allowance with its premium option.

It also includes parent-review controls when a conversation is paused by its safety system.

What about NORAD on Christmas Eve?

NORAD is useful for a completely different reason.

On December 24, families can call 1-877-HI-NORAD (1-877-446-6723) and speak to a volunteer Santa Tracker who can report Santa's current location.

The caller is talking to a NORAD volunteer, not directly to Santa.

NORAD says its operations center normally begins answering calls at 4:00 AM Mountain Time on December 24 and continues until midnight Mountain Time.

For families in Miami, that corresponds to approximately 6:00 AM on December 24 through 2:00 AM on December 25, assuming the published seasonal hours remain unchanged for the 2026 operation.

The official tracking website normally opens its Christmas content on December 1 and the live Santa tracking begins on Christmas Eve.

What about Alexa?

Amazon has offered Santa experiences through Alexa in previous Christmas seasons, including commands such as “Alexa, call Santa” and Santa-themed skills.

However, these features have changed over time and can vary by country. As of September 2026, Amazon has not yet published a complete Christmas 2026 Santa feature list for every Alexa market.

For that reason, we would not choose an Alexa feature as the main plan for a promised Christmas call until Amazon confirms its current seasonal availability closer to December.

Do you need to pay?

It depends on the type of experience.

Some apps are free to download but charge for particular calls or personalization. PNP uses individual products, passes and credits. Live human video visits are generally paid because an appointment with a performer has to be reserved.

Simulators are more likely to provide a basic no-cost experience supported by ads or optional in-app purchases.

Do not choose an option purely because its store page says “Free.” Check what is included before showing it to a child.

For younger kids, simpler usually works better

A four-year-old does not need a technically sophisticated AI conversation for the moment to feel special.

An unexpected ring followed by Santa saying the child's name may create a stronger reaction than a long video session.

Older children who want to ask their own questions are more likely to enjoy an interactive service. A live human video call can work especially well when several siblings want to participate together.

Choose the format based on what the child will actually enjoy, not on which service has the longest feature list.
